Things to do & travel tips

  • You NEED a Protected Area Permit (PAP) for the Silk Route - arrange it through a registered Sikkim operator/homestay (carry ID + photos).
  • It is high and very cold - pack heavy layers even in summer.
  • Stay is in basic Zuluk/Nathang homestays - book ahead, no walk-ins.
  • Network is poor; fuel up and carry cash before Rongli.
