Overview
A lake town wrapped in 52 ghats and one of the very few Brahma temples in the world. Half pilgrimage, half backpacker hangout - camel fair in November, rooftop cafés year round, and a sunrise hike to the Savitri temple above the town.

Come in November for the fair, but book months out and expect the town to be a different place entirely.
What most travellers miss
- Pushkar is strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free by custom - eat non-veg in Ajmer instead, not here.
- The "Pushkar passport" flower puja at the ghats: agree the amount up front or decline politely, or you will be quoted a fortune afterwards.
- The Savitri temple has a ropeway if you would rather not do the pre-dawn climb.
- Sunset from a rooftop over the lake beats the dunes camel ride if you only do one.

- Nearest airport Jaipur (Sanganer) is the practical airport at 145 km / about 3 hours. Kishangarh airport is closer at 55 km but has very limited flights.
- Nearest railway station Ajmer Junction, 15 km away, is the railhead - direct trains from Delhi, Jaipur, Ahmedabad and Mumbai. Pushkar's own halt has almost no service.
- Bus & road hub RSRTC buses from Jaipur, Ajmer and Jodhpur run through the day; Ajmer-Pushkar local buses go every 15-20 minutes over the hill.
- Taxis & local transport Ajmer-Pushkar taxi is about ₹600-₹900. The town itself is walkable end to end; vehicles are restricted around the lake.
- Road access & best route Smooth run from Jaipur on NH48 via Kishangarh, about 3 hours. Delhi is 400 km, roughly 7 hours.
Things to do & travel tips
Pushkar is strictly vegetarian and alcohol-free by custom - do not carry either into town. Around the ghats you will be offered "Pushkar passport" flower puja: agree the amount first or decline politely, as inflated demands are common. Shoes come off well before you reach the ghat steps. The Savitri hike is best at sunrise; there is a ropeway if you would rather not climb.Map
