About this trek
The Markha Valley trek is the most famous trek in Ladakh, winding through the high desert of Hemis National Park past Buddhist villages, monasteries, mani walls and the occasional homestay. It crosses two passes, including Kongmaru La at about 5,200 m.
River crossings, prayer-flag-strewn ridges and grand views of Kang Yatse make it a rewarding moderate trek in a starkly beautiful, high-altitude landscape — snow-leopard country in winter.
