The DIY deep-dive

Bhrigu Lake Trek is at its best in May to June, September to October. It covers about 18 km, runs over 3–4 days, tops out near 4,300 m.

DIY route options

The classic route Start from Gulaba / Jobra and follow the standard 3-day line - the most reliable, well-trodden way to do it.
Self-guided or with a guide Do it solo with the offline Gaia GPS trail file, or hire a local guide at Gulaba / Jobra for the navigation and logistics.

What most travellers miss

  • Download offline maps and share your plan first - the mobile network here is patchy to none.
  • Do not rush past Manali - most people treat it as a quick stop, but it is worth a slower evening.
  • Time it for May to June, September to October. Outside that window, snow, weather or road closures can cut access.

Where to base yourself

Rola Kholi Trailhead base - last shops, network and gear before you set off.
Manali A key stop on the route - where the trek halts for the night.

DIY is the main way - this is the upgrade

About this trek

Bhrigu Lake sits at about 4,300 m on the ridge east of Manali, named for the sage Maharishi Bhrigu who is said to have meditated here. What makes it special is reaching true alpine meadows on day one – vast, open grasslands grazed by shepherd flocks.

The lake, often part-frozen well into summer, mirrors the surrounding peaks. It is a short but rewarding high-altitude trek with a quick rise in elevation.
