A Parvati-valley village where boiling springs come straight out of the riverbank - the Gurudwara Manikaran Sahib cooks its langar in that water, and a Shiva temple sits alongside it. Kasol is 4 km downstream, Kheerganga a day's walk up.

What most travellers miss

  • The spring water is close to boiling, not warm - use the built tanks only, never the open channels.
  • The langar at the gurudwara is free, excellent, and cooked in that spring water.
  • Carry cash: the valley loses signal in patches and the ATMs are unreliable.
  • Chalal is a 20-minute forest walk from Kasol and far calmer than the main strip.

  • Nearest airport Bhuntar (Kullu-Manali) airport is the closest at 35 km / about 1.5 hours, with limited flights from Delhi and Chandigarh.
  • Nearest railway station There is no useful railhead. Joginder Nagar (145 km) is narrow gauge; Chandigarh (270 km) is the practical broad-gauge option.
  • Bus & road hub HRTC buses run Bhuntar-Kasol-Manikaran through the day, and there are overnight Delhi-Kasol services in season.
  • Taxis & local transport Bhuntar-Manikaran taxi is roughly ₹1,200-₹1,800. The village itself is entirely on foot - vehicles stop at the bridge.
  • Road access & best route Delhi to Manikaran is about 520 km, 12-14 hours via Chandigarh, Mandi and Bhuntar. The valley road from Bhuntar is narrow and slow.

Things to do & travel tips

The springs are near boiling, not warm - never step into an open channel, and follow the marked bathing tanks only. Head covering is required inside the gurudwara and cloth is provided. The valley loses mobile signal in patches and cash machines are unreliable, so carry cash. Roads shut quickly after heavy rain; keep a buffer day in monsoon.
